AI Technology to Maximise Safety Benefits

At Moove, we’ve been working with vehicle data for years, translating it into insights that help our customers build safer, more sustainable, and more efficient fleets. Safe driving behaviour is a crucial pillar in that strategy. That’s why we collaborate with trusted technology partners like Nauto, an AI company focused on safety-driven mobility. In this blog, Nauto CEO Stefan Heck shares how their AI-powered camera technology helps reduce on-road risks and boosts fleet performance at both the driver and operational level.

Safety first, from the very beginning

Nauto was founded ten years ago with a clear mission: to use artificial intelligence to improve mobility. That mission was built on four pillars — safety, efficiency, accessibility, and cost savings — but safety came first.

Stefan Heck, CEO of Nauto explains: “Safety matters every minute someone is driving. The company’s vision wasn’t to replace human drivers, but to help them improve. That’s why, from day one, the focus has been on privacy and the driver’s experience. If drivers like, trust, and engage with the technology, they’re far more likely to use it consistently, and that’s where the true safety gains are made.”

To build that trust, Nauto’s systems are based on three clear promises to drivers:

1. Transparency: Drivers can always see what the system is doing. They receive feedback in real time and have the opportunity to correct their behaviour before anything is shared with a fleet manager.

2. Proactive risk detection: The AI looks ahead by five seconds to warn drivers of risks that haven’t happened yet, enabling truly preventive action.

3. High accuracy: Alerts are only triggered in response to urgent, real threats. With at least 95% accuracy (and most algorithms exceeding 99%), drivers are not overwhelmed by irrelevant or false warnings, which increases their trust and responsiveness.

These principles ensure that the technology supports drivers rather than monitors them. As a result, around 75% of risk reduction comes from drivers self-correcting based on the system’s alerts. A testament to how well-designed AI can lead to immediate behavioural change.

Visible results across the fleet

The impact of AI camera technology is already clear. Nauto has reduced total accidents across fleets by 60 to 65 percent. That kind of improvement hinges on the capability of the AI itself: what it can detect, how fast it can detect it, and how accurately it can respond. According to Stefan, many fleet managers don’t ask these questions; they focus on having AI, without considering what it delivers.

The real question should always be: Does this technology make my drivers safer? When the answer is yes, driver adoption increases rapidly, leading to measurable improvements in safety performance and driver satisfaction.

The irreversible growth of AI safety systems

Looking ahead, Stefan sees deeper integration of AI into vehicles as the next step. With Europe leading the way in safety regulation for new vehicles, more AI capabilities will be factory-installed, not added later via external hardware.

According to Stefan, avoiding disjointed systems that flood drivers with competing alerts is critical. Drivers don’t benefit from multiple systems shouting at them. Instead, true value lies in seamless integration that supports safe behaviour without distraction. When systems are aligned and connected, AI technology's safety and cost-saving potential can be fully realised.
